My Honest Review of Zaycon Fresh

My Honest Review of Zaycon Fresh

Have you heard of Zaycon Fresh?

Zaycon Fresh is a amazing company that brings you fresh farm meats at an amazing price. I have ordered from them twice and have been very impressed with what they had to offer.

From Zaycon’s website:

Quality food at unbeatable value, direct from the farm to your family table. That’s Zaycon!

How does it work?

  1. You need food. Fortunately, our food tastes great.
  2. You go online to ZayconFresh.com and place your order, your jaw dropping at how much great food you can get for such low prices.
  3. On the day of your local Zaycon sales event, you bring your order confirmation to a designated location a short drive from your home, and you get your fresh, delicious, nutritious food!

That’s it, just three easy steps! And let’s be honest, that first step wasn’t even time-consuming.

My honest review of Zaycon

*Zaycon did not compensate me to write this or sponsor it at all. All opinions are my own. The link is a referral link, which means I get a very small credit if you sign up and/or make a purchase. I whole heartedly endorse Zaycon and will always give you my honest opinion. I just like to share good stuff, man!

I had first heard about Zaycon from a few other blogs. They had raved about how great the meat was, how low the prices were, and how they loved buying meat in bulk. I did some research, read several reviews, watched this video, and decided to place my first order.

I started with the boneless, skinless, chicken breasts and felt totally crazy for buying 40 lbs of chicken at once!

What happened from there:

I got my confirmation email with all the pick up instructions. They will tell you exactly where you will pick up your order. It is usually in a church parking lot or somewhere like that. They will have a 30 min – 1 hour window time of pick up.

The day of pick up, I received a reminder text message and email. You can opt out of text messages if you prefer, but I found them super helpful. They will text you if they are there early and are ready for pick ups. They will let you know if they have any extra cases that can be purchased.

When I pulled up to pick up my order, the Zaycon truck was ready in the parking lot. You just get in line (very short line or no line in my experience), pull up, tell them your name, they load your car up, and you drive away with your order. Simple as that.

When I got home, I was ready with my freezer bags (definitely prepare with these), and ready to divide all the meat up. Some meats will come in portioned packages, the chicken breasts came all together in a food safe bag in a cardboard box.

I divided the chicken up and filled up my freezer bags. These chicken breasts were huge!! Some I cut in half for smaller meals, some I put 1 to a bag, and some I put 2 to a bag. This way I could pull out however much I needed.

I use the reusable grocery shopping bags in my freezer to store all my meats. I have a chest freezer so this makes it really easy to move the bags around, and get to the bottom easily.

The chicken filled up two of these bags, so I thought I would be set for YEARS. I picked my order up in March, and we are almost out now. So 40 lbs for the 2 of us lasted almost 6 months. We also eat at home almost every single night. We might eat out 1-2 times per month. I do buy a little meat at the grocery, but we probably have chicken about 3-4 times per week.

I like to plan my meals for the week (6 Easy Steps to Meal Planning). When I have chicken planned for a meal, I will pull out a bag of chicken and let it thaw overnight. I like to go ahead and do this while I am cooking that night’s meal, so I can do everything in the kitchen at once.

The taste is great! It tastes fresh, healthy, and naturally good.

Here are my pros and cons to Zaycon Chicken:

  1. Price!

The price per lb. is great! The chicken breasts are usually $1.69/lb. Our grocery store has them ON SALE for $3.49/lb right now.

The ground beef we bought was $2.99/lb. This is normally $4-5/lb at our grocery store. We did buy the 80/20, and the 90/10 is $3.99 last I checked.

Now, some grocery stores will have a great sale every now and then, and it’s great to stock up on those, but by the time you run out, you probably will have to pay more than that for more. I love knowing I paid the same, great price for all 40 lbs.

2. Quality

The quality of meat is great! It always tastes fresh, tender, and juicy. Zaycon prides themselves on the quality of their product. For the chicken, their website states:

Jumbo, fresh, tender, juicy chicken breasts.

  • 100% all-natural. No hormones added. Federal regulations prohibit the use of hormones.
  • High quality chicken you can prep and store the best way you choose.
  • Direct to you right from the processing farm.
  • 40lb case of whole, minimally processed double-lobed “butterfly” breasts.

We have also had the 80/20 ground beef, and have been extremely impressed with the quality of the meat. There is more grease/fat that the 90/10 lean ground beef would have, but it is definitely not extremely fatty or greasy at all.

3. Plenty meat on hand

I sometimes like to do some freezer cooking, and stock our freezer with casseroles or spaghetti sauce. It would be expensive to go the grocery and stock up on a lot of meat for these meals. Instead, I can do my freezer cooking at my leisure and grab whatever meat I need from the freezer.

You don’t have to worry about not having anything to fix, going to the grocery every week for meat.

And honestly, if we ever hit tough times or didn’t have much money in the budget for groceries, you have plenty in the freezer to get you through.

I do like to add in a few different types of meat when I see a good deal to break things up a little bit.

4. Wide variety of meats

Zaycon offers a wide variety of meats. They have chicken breasts, ground beef, several seafood options, bacon, hot dogs, ground turkey, steaks, roasts, and more! Check out all of their products here.

5. I like supporting this company!

I really like to support this company and really like what they are all about. I love that they provide farm fresh meats at an affordable price, how easy it is to get the product, and the customer service that backs them up.

In all fairness, I have to list the couple of things that aren’t my favorite…

  1. You can’t buy every item all the time.

Right now, I am almost out of ground beef, and they aren’t any ground beef events available at the time. There was one a few weeks ago, but guess what? I didn’t need it then. At first, it is hard to tell how much we will use and how fast it will go. I will definitely plan ahead this next go around to get a case before I run out! I just really hate the thought of having to go to the grocery store for these meats now.

2. You have to buy a lot of each type of meat.

I would love to try out their roasts or steaks, but it’s hard for me to store that much quantity of several types of meat. I would love to be able to buy maybe 4 roasts, or 6 steaks. If this is an issue for you, you could try splitting a case with a family member or a friend, though!

3. The work involved in freezing the meat after purchase.

You definitely want to have about 30 mins – 1 hr set aside (depending on what you ordered) when you get home with your meat to unpackage, split up if needed, and get everything in the freezer.

The chicken breasts needed to be put in freezer bags, and some I wanted to cut in half so there was more work there.

The ground beef came in 10 pound packages the last time I ordered. My husband thought this was crazy and sent a picture to his friends! We ended up cutting it into about 1/2 lb and 1 lb and freezing it like that. The last time I saw it was available, it was selling in 2 lb packages, so it seems that had been addressed as something to change. That would be easy to freeze in that size.

My final opinion

I would definitely highly highly recommend  Zaycon to anyone that wanted to

  • reduce the amount they spent on meat
  • have plenty of meat on hand for freezer cooking
  • stock up only a few times a year
  • make sure they were eating fresh, farm raised, quality meats.

I would definitely recommend having a deep freezer if you are going to be ordering meat in bulk. I put each type of meat in a reusable cloth grocery bag. This makes it so easy to keep everything together that needs to stay together, and keeps different meats separated. You can easily pull one bag out and get to the bottom of the freezer. If you have a upright chest freezer, then 1st, I’m jealous, and 2nd, fill it up!
